new to dance

This is a new class starting in 2025. We will cover a wide range of material through the fall with the goal of getting dancers prepared to join a class that runs for the whole academic year in the spring semester in January. Dancers can enroll in this class alone or this can be a supplemental class in addition to a class that runs the whole academic year (recommended). If you have questions on what would be best for your dancer, please reach out to us. This class does not perform in the recital.

Red - Creative Movement

Meant for preschool-aged children (ages 3-4), this introduction dance class provides a unique opportunity for parents and children to experience discover the joy of dance together. From the music to the movement, this experience will be pure joy for you and your child as you make memories and learn together. This class does not perform in the recital.

FUCHSIA - Creative Movement (Pre-Ballet)

Meant for preschool-aged children (ages 5-6), this creative movement class features ballet technique. The class also teaches the rhythm and musicality of this dance style. Fuchsia students do participate in the annual recital (ballet only).

Tangerine

Meant for early elementary school children (typically ages 6-8), this class features both ballet and tap techniques. It covers the foundational steps of both styles. Students will perform a ballet and tap dance at the recital.

Coral 1 and 2

Meant for elementary aged children, this class features both ballet and tap techniques. This class builds on the foundational steps learned in Tangerine. Students will perform a ballet and tap dance at the recital. The class is an hour long.

Orange

Meant for late elementary and middle schoolers (typically 5th through 6th grade), this class features both ballet and tap techniques. This class builds on the foundational steps learned in Coral. At this level, jazz will also be introduced. Students will perform a ballet and tap dance at the recital.

Note: Orange is combined with Yellow for the 2026-2027 school year.

Teal/Blue

Meant for late middle schools/ high schoolers (7th through 12th grade with teacher recommendation), this class level features ballet, tap and jazz techniques. This class builds on the foundational steps learned in Green. Students will perform a ballet, tap and jazz dance at the recital. This class meets two nights a week for a total of 3 hours a week.

Violet (Pre-Pointe and Pointe)

This Pre-Pointe and Pointe class class level features advanced ballet technique and requires teacher approval for placement. Students will perform at the recital. This class meets one night per week. Students are required to be enrolled in an additional ballet class to take this class.

Beginning/Intermediate and Advanced Modern

These classes are offered for students age 12 and up, or by teacher recommendation. Modern will consist of 2 levels, Beginning/Intermediate and Advanced, with placement based on previous dance experience and skills. In order to register for Advanced Modern, students must be enrolled in a ballet class. Students will perform in the recital. Students should register for Beginning/Intermediate level and individual placements for Advanced will be based on teacher assessment and recommendation. cathedral Dance Festival Ensemble

Cathedral Program

Open to all students in Orange, Yellow, Green, Teal, and Blue level classes

For the fall semester classes will be held on Oct 17, 24, 31, Nov 7, 14, 21, Dec 12 & 19. Spring dates are TBA.

Our Cathedral Program provides additional performance opportunities to dancers who are committed to take their skills to the next level. Dancers will learn a group choreography piece throughout the year in a specific dance style and will perform at the Cathedral Dance Festival and annual Sondance recital.

At the festival, dancers will have the opportunity to participate in convention style classes from guest instructors and dance professionals as well as perform for adjudication. Dancers are required to attend all rehearsal and festival dates with the exception of two rehearsal absences maximum per semester. Attire and shoe requirements will be communicated upon registration and may vary based on level.

Cathedral Ensemble

Open to Teal/Blue dancers by audition only

The Cathedral Ensemble is open to a select group of dancers chosen by audition to perform an additonal piece in addition to their group dance. The Ensemble focuses on next-level performance and commitment with a high standard of dancer skills, technique, and artistry. Dancers must be enrolled in the Cathedral Program in order to audition for the Ensemble. If you are unable to attend the audition, please contact Ms. Anna (annadwyer.dance@gmail.com) for details on video submissions.

Senior Choreography

Senior Choreography is dedicated to preparing students with their senior recital piece. This class generally meets second semester. Seniors can use an previous costume or order a new one for a fee.

Father/Daughter

This time honored tradition is a precious time for Dads/Daughters to enjoy a class just for them. This class meets 10-12 times in the late winter/spring to rehearse a dance to be performed at the spring recital. Historically, Sondance has offered multiple sections of this class, grouped by class level. Daughters will use an existing costume from another class, as determined by the instructor; Dads generally have minimal costs for additional costume accessories . To be eligible for this class, daughters must be enrolled in a minimum of one additional class at Sondance.

PRODUCTION
